Jeans are our bread and butter. Our best friends. Our must-haves. More than anything else in our wardrobe. They’re more dependable than a classic white t-shirt. They’re easier to care for than a simple pair of sneakers. They’re more versatile than a pair of slacks or tailored trousers. Jeans are important.
So, we’re focusing on them big time this season and we’re starting right here with our absolute best picks for each style of jean you might be interested in investing in this season. No frills or alternatives. Just our top pick per style from our all-important denim brand partners, here at Shop It To Me.
Keep your eyes on SITM because prices change and drop ALL the time!
In August last year, we created a blog about the best denim brands for women. We looked at Levi’s, Madewell, Gap, Paige, J Brand and more and selected our top picks from each brand. Take a look at our best denim brands -> right here.
For 2020 – We think you need an update.
Here – we’ve taken our time and picked out the ultimate best jeans for women in the store right now. From a wealth of different brands, whether you want to update your wardrobe with some classic staples or a key trend from the season, our 2020 denim guide has you covered with the best jeans ever.
Classic Black Skinny Jeans
A wardrobe staple that transcends trends and gives you options in every season, everyone needs to have a dependable pair of classic black skinny jeans in their closet. They’re flattering and chic and oh-so-versatile, making them an absolute must.
Whether you’re wearing them with a tee, boots and a leather jacket or a lace bra, blazer and heels, black skinny jeans remain at the top of every stylish woman’s shopping list season after season.
Our pick for best black skinny jeans is this pair from Reformation at $98. We love to shop at Reformation when possible because it’s one of the most sustainable fashion brands right now and they never miss a trick when it comes to edgy trends.
Made from organic cotton and sustainable stretchy Tencel modal fabric, this pair of skinnies are the perfect fit, super high-waisted and goes with absolutely everything else in your wardrobe.
Classic Blue Skinny Jeans
Like black skinny jeans, blue skinnies are just as important to have in your wardrobe. They allow you to look stylish and chic when you’re at your most casual and they give you the perfect smart-casual uniform for drinks with the girls or a laid-back dinner date.
GAP has always served fantastic skinny jeans when it comes to quality and fit balanced with a great price and this season, they’ve made sure to nail it. Reduced to just $48, this pair comes complete with raw hems, making them super contemporary, a perfect mid-rise and balanced mid-wash. All these factors equal the perfect basic must-have.
High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans
They’re the jean of the moment but they’re also a classic staple. So, really, a no brainer. Straight-leg jeans are ideal for pairing with anything from your sneakers to an on-trend minimal strappy kitten heel.
We had to go with Levi’s for this pick as a classic piece and we’ve opted for the skinny 501s. Perfect straight-leg fit but just so slightly skinnier making it even easier to dress them up. At $98, they’ve got a retro light-wash, ankle-grazing length and are super-high-waisted. Perfection.
Perfect Boot Cut Jeans
Boot cuts are another classic and often underrated style of jeans for women. They’re incredibly flattering and can look super chic with a slight heel or sandal. Try to avoid pairing boot cut jeans with sneakers as this is when your look can become a little dated.
Nail the perfect boot cut jean with this mid-rise and ultra-versatile pair from Paige at $189. This style really does transcend the seasons and trends and allows you to style it with anything from a crisp white shirt to a laid-back tee or tank.
On-Trend Flare Jeans
Flares are back on-trend again and we couldn’t be happier. Flares started to get a bit of a bad rep but actually, they’re super flattering, easy to style and perfect to create a comfortable dressed up look out of denim that makes you stand out.
We had to go with J Brand for this category because they just always do flare jeans so well. At $210, they’re not the cheapest, but the quality of J Brand jeans is undeniable and you’ll be wearing them for years to come.
This pair has a really high and flattering waist, an exaggerated flare that makes it perfect for the season and is also available in multiple washes of blue denim too.
Kick Flare Jeans
A popular jean for the fashion pack at the moment is cropped kick flare jeans. This look is shorter than an ankle-grazer, which often means it’s styled with casual flat mules. But this style jean can also be dressed up with a sleek heel too.
We opted for this Mother Denim pair of kick flares. Originally priced at $245, shop this pair on Shop It To Me for $171.50. A classic mid-wash and mid-waist, these jeans are super versatile while the frayed raw hem keeps them particularly on-trend.
Loose-Fit Boyfriend Jeans
Boyfriend jeans are another great staple to have in your wardrobe. They’re a classic choice for laid-back weekend style with a simple white tee, leather jacket, and sneakers. However, add a crop top, oversized blazer, and strappy heels and you’ve also got a super on-trend Saturday night out look.
We picked this Agolde pair of boyfriend jeans priced at $198 because they are the perfect boyfriend fit. They’re loose and slouchy but they’re super high-waisted and slightly tapered at the ankle which means they’ll always remain flattering.
Wide-Leg Jeans
If you fancy something a little more statement, wide-leg jeans are our absolute favorite. They’re more flattering than you would imagine and super-comfortable, making them a great choice for so many different occasions.
This J Brand pair of wide-leg jeans are denim perfection. They’re wide but they’re not too trendy or exaggerated, They’re high-waisted and ultra-flattering in the perfect blue wash. Plus, they were originally priced at $248 but at Shop It To Me, you can now grab them with $100 off at $148.
Skinny Coated Jeans
Lastly, we needed to include coated jeans as they are now such a staple for most women’s wardrobes and a great animal-friendly alternative to leather pants.
We opted for this pair from Hudson, usually priced at $195 and reduced to $175.50, as they’re the ideal high-waist, skinny fit. Easy to style with everything and perfect when you want to feel a little dressier but you want to stick to your comfortable jeans.
And just in case – we’ve also thrown in this pair of boot-cut coated jeans from Hudson at $215 for good measure because they’re just so good.
Not sure which style of jeans are going to suit your body type?
We wrote a blog all about finding the right jeans for your body type a while back – here are the highlights to inspire you to try something new this season!
Best Jeans for an Hourglass Body Type
Hourglass shapes have a smaller waist and wider hips so opt for fitted styles that show off that shape. Straight leg and flare also balance out wider hips. If you’re opting for skinny fit, go super high-waisted to ensure your waistline doesn’t get lost.
· True Skinny High Rise
· High Rise Cigarette
· High Rise Cheeky Straight Leg
· High Rise Flare
Best Jeans for an Apple Body Type
Apple shapes are wider at the waistline with narrow hips and thighs so mid-rise works best, in general, and jeans with a little more volume at the calf add balance and create the illusion of more of an hourglass.
· Mid Rise Curvy Classic Straight
· High Rise Wide Leg
· Mid Rise Long and Lean
· Mid Rise Perfect Boot
Best Jeans for a Pear Body Type
Pear shapes have small top halves and wider hips which means straight, tapered and flared jeans offer a more hourglass silhouette from head to toe.
· High Rise Cigarette
· Mid Rise Classic Straight
· High Rise Cheeky Straight Leg
· High Rise Boot
Best Jeans for a Rectangle Body Type
Rectangle body shapes tend to be athletic builds without very much curve from waist to hip. High-rise jeans help to add some curves and boost the booty while most leg fits will suit.
· True Skinny Mid Rise
· High Rise Cheeky Straight Leg
· Mid Rise Girlfriend Jeans
· High Rise Crop Boot
Best Jeans for a Triangle Body Type
Triangle shapes tend to have wider shoulders than hips with narrow legs so creating balance is often important. Having volume below the knee helps to create this balance and forms a more feminine head to toe shape.
· High Rise Cigarette
· High Rise Cheeky Straight Leg
· Mid Rise Boyfriend Jeans
· High Rise Wide Leg Crop
